Yankees acquire LHP Aroldis Chapman from Reds

Yankees acquire LHP Aroldis Chapman from Cincinnati
The New York Yankees today announced that they have acquired left-handed pitcher Aroldis Chapman from the Cincinnati Reds in exchange for RHPs Caleb Cotham and Rookie Davis and INFs Eric Jagielo and Tony Renda.

A National League All-Star in each of the last four seasons (2012-15), Chapman, 27, went 4-4 with 33 saves and a 1.63 ERA (66.1IP, 12ER) in 65 relief appearances with the Reds in 2015. His 15.74K/9.0IP ratio led all Major League relievers, while his 116K ranked second behind only Dellin Betances (131). He recorded his 500th career strikeout on July 19 vs. Cleveland, having reached the plateau in 292.0IP to become the fastest to 500K by innings pitched in Major League history (surpassed Craig Kimbrel's record of 500K in 305.0IP, set earlier in 2015).

Assuming they aren't trying to move Miller as part of a larger deal, this is a big move. With the weak rotation, they now stand to make games 6 innings long. I think even their rotation can look good if your 7/8/9 is lights out.

The move is a no brainer from a purely baseball perspective. But the man choked his girlfriend and fired a gun eight times in his garage...

It's a great move, and if they don't trade Miller, it gives them a bullpen even better than KC's, but they still need offense. I can't realistically expect ARod or Tex to have another year like they did in 2015, let alone both of them, and without those big bats the rest of the lineup was pretty sketchy.

seemingly a solid move...although someone brought up a good point on the radio..yanks got him for way less prospect wise than someone at his level should get..and for way less than other relievers have been getting..

if the suspension doesnt happen or is minimal, and he pitches like he should, the yanks can also flip him at the trade deadline for some teams top prospects and replenish our system with higher quality than we gave up...or they can trade miller for some team's top prospects as well..

After the incident came out, the Reds were not going to get squat for this guy. They had to take whatever deal presented itself. Just needed a organization to come forward with zero scruples to come get him, and the Raiders or Cowboys don't play baseball.

I'm personally glad Yankees have no scrupils. Plus the woman's neck had no bruises, nor was this a criminal matter. I'm not sold.
