Should Yankees Cut A-Rod?

Post by WOODMO » January 12th, 2014, 2:43 pm

Interesting article.

Obviously they'd have to pay him the 61 million owed, without a thing to show for it. But is losing the circus worth it? What can he even give nearing 40, coming off a year off.

What do you all think?

Doesn't matter at this point. Just keep him.

Cut him immediately. Too bad if they have to pay him, that will happen regardless. You do not want this chump associated with the franchise any longer. If you cut him, you never have to answer questions about him again.

I kind of lean this way. How much can he contribute the NEXT season? You're out the 61 million anyway, do you want distraction, just to get a .230 hitter who gives you maybe 11 home runs? Plus it seems like if they just paid him in full and cut him, they'd lose the potential home run bonuses. I would think he'd have an argument that they're robbing him of his potential to earn, thus getting at least some of the bonuses, but I don't know how those provisions fit into the CBA.

he was still contributing late last year better than anything the Yanks had, so I can't see why they wouldn't want to see how he is in Spring training first
