They've obviously run out of ideas.

Yeah this list is lame. Most of these aren't even in development.

The idea of "Hollywood running out of ideas" is a fallacy. There's tons of interesting movies out there. Maybe Hollywood producers have run out of ideas as to what's profitable, because it is largely up to them what gets seen by the masses and what stays in relative obscurity, getting VOD or limited releases.

In 2015 alone you have Jurassic Park, Terminator, and Star Wars. And 2 of those 3 have cast members from the original movies.

You say "Maybe Hollywood producers have run out of ideas as to what's profitable" which at the very least means they've run out of GOOD ideas.

The accountants who run things now have financial models they go by. One could argue these are outdated. They calculate how much is to be made on tickets, merch, home video, licensing, whatever. Then figure out what the expenses will be. Even if they reason that the film will MAKE money, still won't get made because it won't make "enough" money. Remember, action films no longer compete with each other at the box office, even from competing studios. It's completely rigged. To me it's not necessary, take Guardians of the Galaxy. No one has ever heard of that property outside diehard comic book fans, yet it blew up (largely from advertising) and did as well as any established title. The other problem are the theaters. They don't make any money on ticket sales, it's all on concessions, and they want popcorn movies. They don't want The Pianist or Midnight Cowboy or The Usual Suspects. They have reason not to, because people don't go see these films. That's the key, movie goers are mostly teenagers/young adults and they prefer increasingly dumb comedies and dumber action films.

Terminator 2 is now dropped, probably killing the franchise for good, or at least quite awhile. Good news is The Rock is replacing Hasselhoff in a Baywatch movie!
